# Synap Memory

Maintains persistent agent memory by bridging MCP tool calls directly into the Synap REST API. It records conversation context and retrieves user facts across sessions.

## What it does

This remote HTTP adapter relays MCP tool calls straight to the Synap REST backend without maintaining local storage. Incoming requests carry their own `Bearer synap_<key>` token, which the service passes through directly to the authentication layer.

The server exposes four operations: `log_exchange` for storing dialogue turns, `recall_context` for fast memory retrieval, `list_recent_memories` for inspections, and `check_memory_status` for write verification. Streaming events to the anticipation agent is disabled by default via `MCP_STREAM_EVENTS=false` to avoid extra model billing and duplicated extraction passes.

Context separation follows instance rules. A B2C deployment using `equals_customer` accepts solely `user_id` and rejects `customer_id` immediately. In strict B2B setups, providing both `customer_id` and `user_id` is mandatory. Omitting both falls back to a shared client scope that stays hidden from relational dashboard views.

## Requirements
- Remote server: `https://synap-mcp.maximem.ai/mcp`

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
claude mcp add --transport http synap-mcp-server https://synap-mcp.maximem.ai/mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
codex mcp add synap-mcp-server --url https://synap-mcp.maximem.ai/mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "synap-mcp-server": {
            "url": "https://synap-mcp.maximem.ai/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "synap-mcp-server": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://synap-mcp.maximem.ai/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http synap-mcp-server https://synap-mcp.maximem.ai/mcp
```

## When to use it
- persist user dialogue turns to long-range memory
- retrieve prior conversation context for a specific user ID
- verify background ingestion status for an asynchronous write
- inspect recent memory entries during agent debugging

## Example prompts
- Retrieve stored background information for user `usr_123` using Synap
- Log this conversation turn under `usr_123` so the memory persists
- Check the processing state of memory write `ing_456`
