# SumOffice — real Word and Excel for agents

SumOffice lets an agent inspect Word and Excel files, suggest edits for approval, then apply them. Use it when you need to work with .docx, .xlsx, or .xlsm files.

## What it does

The server can read documents and spreadsheets, search their contents, and prepare edits. Proposed changes come back as a diff; applying them requires approval. It also handles comments, macro inspection, Power Query details, copies, and PDF export.

Connect to the hosted server over HTTP or run the local option with Docker. With local mode, the agent supplies a file path under `/work`, while the file is opened in a short-lived editor session on SumOffice’s server and deleted afterwards. That matters if the document must stay on your own machine.

Only one editor session can work on a document at a time; another agent gets read-only access. Macros are not run by the MCP server, and Power Query definitions are kept without being refreshed.
