# SqlAugur

SqlAugur lets AI clients inspect SQL Server with read-only queries, schema tools, diagrams, and diagnostics. It fits projects that need database access through MCP.

## What it does

SqlAugur connects an MCP client to one or more named SQL Server connections. Only `SELECT` statements and CTEs are accepted. Each query is parsed into a complete T-SQL AST with Microsoft's parser, so comment-based tricks, string-literal escapes, and encoding workarounds are rejected before execution.

The server can map schemas, document tables, show dependencies, create PlantUML or Mermaid ER diagrams, and inspect estimated or actual execution plans. Optional integrations cover First Responder Kit, DarlingData, and `sp_WhoIsActive`. Tools are exposed progressively, while throughput and concurrency limits help contain repeated query calls.

The global tool requires the .NET 10.0 runtime. Store server connections in `appsettings.json`, then add `sqlaugur` to the MCP client configuration. The global installation cannot proceed without the required .NET runtime.

- inspect tables, keys, defaults, and constraints
- generate a PlantUML or Mermaid ER diagram
- examine an estimated or actual query plan
- diagnose SQL Server with optional DBA tools

## Example prompts
- Inspect the `production` database schema and list its keys and constraints.
- Run a read-only query that finds the latest rows in the target table.
- Create a Mermaid ER diagram for this database and explain its relationships.
