## What it does

The `run_speed_test` tool checks the connection and returns download and upload speeds, latency, and jitter. Use `get_test_history` to retrieve saved results; the server also exposes resources for recent history and its current configuration. Measurements use the nearest SpeedOf.Me edge location, and test records are kept in `~/.speedofme/history.json`.

You need Node.js 18 or later and a SpeedOf.Me API secret. Set it as `SOM_API_SECRET`; the test cannot run without that credential. To add the server to Claude Code, run `claude mcp add speed-test -e SOM_API_SECRET=<SOM_API_SECRET> -- npx -y @speedofme/mcp`, then restart the client.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Environment variables: `SOM_API_SECRET` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add speed-test -e SOM_API_SECRET=<SOM_API_SECRET> -- npx -y @speedofme/mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add speedofme --env SOM_API_SECRET=<SOM_API_SECRET> -- npx -y @speedofme/mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "speedofme": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@speedofme/mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "SOM_API_SECRET": "<SOM_API_SECRET>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "speedofme": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@speedofme/mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "SOM_API_SECRET": "<SOM_API_SECRET>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add -e SOM_API_SECRET=<SOM_API_SECRET> speedofme npx -y @speedofme/mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values

## When to use it
- check current download and upload speeds
- measure connection latency and jitter
- retrieve previous test results
- filter saved results by date with `since`

## Example prompts
- Run a SpeedOf.Me check and report my download, upload, and latency.
- Show me my previous SpeedOf.Me tests.
- Find SpeedOf.Me results after this date and compare them.
