## What it does

sovseal-memory gives an agent a persistent memory layer through MCP. It stores entries locally and searches them by meaning with LanceDB and 384-dimensional Transformers.js embeddings. The exposed operations include `store_memory` and `recall_memory`, so the same context can be used from different clients.

The local mode works offline. If synchronization is enabled, the remote side receives AES-256-GCM ciphertext, while integrity checks use `sha256(canonicalize(payload))`. The server targets Node 20+ and can be started with `npx`. This install path depends on Node 20+ being available in the environment.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add sovseal-memory -- npx -y @sovseal/mcp-server
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add sovseal-memory -- npx -y @sovseal/mcp-server
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "sovseal-memory": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@sovseal/mcp-server"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "sovseal-memory": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@sovseal/mcp-server"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add sovseal-memory npx -y @sovseal/mcp-server
```

## When to use it
- retain context between agent sessions
- retrieve prior decisions by meaning
- share one memory across MCP clients
- keep project context on the local device
- synchronize encrypted memory

## Example prompts
- Save the authentication decision from this project to memory.
- Search memory for the previous API agreements.
- Remember that database migrations run as a separate command.
