## What it does

AI assistants frequently generate outdated function signatures because their training cutoff precedes your dependency updates. This tool inspects pinned packages against the releases published prior to the model's training threshold. It reviews public interfaces statically. Outdated parameters get flagged directly in your codebase.

Running `sync` records targeted guidance inside `AGENTS.md` or `CLAUDE.md`. These notes prevent coding agents from submitting removed keyword arguments during edits. Standard scanning runs locally without consuming external model credits. Keep in mind that older formats like `setup.py` and `setup.cfg` are ignored.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add since-cutoff -- uvx since-cutoff
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from since-cutoff <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add since-cutoff -- uvx since-cutoff
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from since-cutoff <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "since-cutoff": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "since-cutoff"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from since-cutoff <command>

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "since-cutoff": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "since-cutoff"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from since-cutoff <command>

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add since-cutoff uvx since-cutoff
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from since-cutoff <command>

## When to use it
- identify Python calls broken by library releases newer than model cutoffs
- record API changes into `AGENTS.md` or `CLAUDE.md` for coding assistants
- compare locked dependencies against historical packages statically

## Example prompts
- Run `since-cutoff` to check if our Python dependencies use methods that changed after the model cutoff
- Update `AGENTS.md` with new signature notes by running `since-cutoff sync`
