## What it does

The server runs on your machine and communicates directly with Google. Access is restricted strictly to spreadsheets. Claude can write values, format cells, generate pivot tables, and insert charts. Every modification triggers an automated formula-error check alongside full rollback support.

It works with multiple Google accounts simultaneously. You can pull values from personal sheets into corporate reports without juggling tokens. In Claude Desktop, a live view displays changes cell by cell, while Claude Code provides file history through `/mcp__google-sheets__recent_sheets`.

Running the tool requires Node.js 18 or later. The initial authorization triggers an unverified app alert in the browser, which requires proceeding past the advanced warning.

## When to use it
- build a pivot summary grouped by region
- format currency columns and auto-fit row headers
- transfer report tabs between two Google accounts
- revert unintended spreadsheet edits with undo
