## What it does

secedgar-mcp-server lets an agent search SEC EDGAR by ticker, company name, or CIK, browse filings, and retrieve document text. It also exposes historical XBRL values, company comparisons, insider transactions, institutional holdings, blockholders, and fund portfolios.

The package includes tools for financial and filing queries, two resources covering XBRL concepts and filing types, plus a company-analysis prompt. You can connect through the public Streamable HTTP endpoint or run it locally with `npx`. No API key is required. Archive full-text searches before 2001 need a ticker or CIK scope, while the archive reaches back to 1993.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Remote server: `https://secedgar.caseyjhand.com/mcp`
- Environment variables: `EDGAR_USER_AGENT`, `EDGAR_RATE_LIMIT_COOLDOWN_SECONDS`, `MCP_LOG_LEVEL`, `MCP_TRANSPORT_TYPE`, `MCP_HTTP_HOST`, `MCP_HTTP_PORT`, `MCP_HTTP_ENDPOINT_PATH`, `MCP_PUBLIC_URL`, `MCP_AUTH_MODE` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.
