## What it does

This server plans realistic maritime paths across the 2025 Eurostat network instead of drawing straight lines across continents. It accepts geographic coordinates or standard UN/LOCODE identifiers for roughly 1600 ports. Outputs arrive as GeoJSON `LineString` features with length in nautical miles or kilometers.

You can generate alternative routes or evaluate multi-stop itineraries. Specifying vessel speed in knots yields voyage duration in hours. The engine supports passage exclusions, such as bypassing Suez or the Bab-el-Mandeb strait. Canal draft thresholds trigger automated detours; exceeding 15.2 meters automatically excludes the Panama Canal.

Routing fails immediately with `UnknownPortError` if an unrecognised port code is passed. Because the routing graph ships directly with the package, calculations run locally without mandatory external network requests.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add searoute -- npx -y @searoute-ts/mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add searoute -- npx -y @searoute-ts/mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "searoute": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@searoute-ts/mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "searoute": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@searoute-ts/mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add searoute npx -y @searoute-ts/mcp
```

## When to use it
- calculate realistic sea routes between UN/LOCODE ports
- export maritime trajectories as GeoJSON for map rendering
- divert voyages away from restricted straits or canals
- verify waterway access against maximum vessel draft
- estimate sailing duration based on vessel speed in knots

## Example prompts
- Find the sea route from CNSHA to NLRTM avoiding the Suez Canal.
- Calculate maritime distance and duration from New York to London at 22 knots.
- Generate alternative shipping routes between coordinates [-74.04, 40.69] and [-0.13, 51.5].
