## What it does

The server connects your agent to the local Screenpipe engine. Using the `search-content` tool, models query recorded screen activity and audio transcriptions. Each matching text hit is capped at 1,000 characters by default. Passing `max_content_length=0` requests the full text instead.

The stdio transport provides deeper inspection via `frame-context` and `get-frame-elements`. Both tools take a `frame_id` to examine visual details beyond the initial snippet. HTTP transport omits frame inspection entirely.

Analytics and call diagnostics run locally by default. You can disable telemetry reporting with the `SCREENPIPE_DISABLE_TELEMETRY` or `SCREENPIPE_TELEMETRY_DISABLED` environment variables.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add screenpipe-mcp -- npx -y screenpipe-mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add screenpipe-mcp -- npx -y screenpipe-mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "screenpipe-mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "screenpipe-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "screenpipe-mcp": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "screenpipe-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add screenpipe-mcp npx -y screenpipe-mcp
```

## When to use it
- Search past screen recordings for code snippets and text
- Retrieve meeting audio transcripts for agent context
- Inspect individual video frames with `frame-context`
- Disable analytics calls using `SCREENPIPE_DISABLE_TELEMETRY`

## Example prompts
- Find the terminal error shown on my screen thirty minutes ago
- Search audio transcripts for the database schema discussion
- Request the full text for this match using `max_content_length=0`
