## What it does

A `.rpt` file is binary, so an agent can't patch it as text. This server sits on top of SAP's own .NET runtime for Crystal Reports and turns edits into structured MCP tools. The agent can read tables, SQL commands, links, parameters, formulas, groups, sorts, sections and every object on the page, including conditional formulas buried in formatting.

Edits cover formulas, the record selection formula, parameters, groups, sorts, running totals, subreports, field formats and database connections. `batch_edit` bundles several changes into one load, one backup and one save, and either all of them apply or none. The original is copied to `_rptmcp_backup` before anything is overwritten, or you pass `output_path` to get a new file. Deleting a formula, parameter or table that something still uses gets refused unless you set `force`. `export_report` renders to PDF, Excel, Word, CSV or PNG/JPG so the agent can look at the layout.

You need Windows, .NET Framework 4.8 and the 64-bit v13 build of the SAP Crystal Reports runtime (SAP Crystal Reports for Visual Studio works too). SAP ships that runtime separately and the repo doesn't include it, so without it the server won't start.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Install**
- The MCP registry has no launch command for it: see the repository README

## When to use it
- rewrite the record selection formula in an existing `.rpt`
- group a report by shift or day and add subtotals
- swap a logo without moving anything else
- repoint report tables to another server or database
- find which report columns vanished from the database

## Example prompts
- Show me the structure of `report.rpt`: parameters, formulas and groups
- In `report.rpt`, group by the Shift field and put a sum of Qty in the group footer
- Export `report.rpt` to PNG and tell me if the layout looks broken
