## What it does

rhumb-mcp gives an agent tools to search services and capabilities, inspect AN Score evaluations, find alternatives, and review known failure patterns. When Resolve handles a call, it selects a provider using the score, availability, estimated cost, and stated constraints. This is useful when choosing an API for a task or checking options before making a call.

Discovery needs no key. Capability execution and financial or operations tools require `RHUMB_API_KEY`, which you can obtain by signing in to Rhumb. Without that key, the agent can explore the catalog but cannot make authenticated calls. In Claude Code, add the server with `claude mcp add`, pass the environment variable, and launch the package through `npx`.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Environment variables: `RHUMB_API_KEY` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add rhumb-mcp -e RHUMB_API_KEY=<RHUMB_API_KEY> -- npx -y rhumb-mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add mcp --env RHUMB_API_KEY=<RHUMB_API_KEY> -- npx -y rhumb-mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "rhumb-mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "RHUMB_API_KEY": "<RHUMB_API_KEY>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "mcp": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "rhumb-mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "RHUMB_API_KEY": "<RHUMB_API_KEY>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add -e RHUMB_API_KEY=<RHUMB_API_KEY> mcp npx -y rhumb-mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values

## When to use it
- find a service for a required capability
- compare services by AN Score and alternatives
- inspect known service failure patterns
- estimate a capability call's cost and availability

## Example prompts
- Find services for sending email and compare their AN Scores.
- Show alternatives to Stripe and list known failure patterns.
- Estimate the cost and availability of calling this capability.
