## What it does

RenForge plugs into your agent as an MCP server and exposes tools for Ren'Py visual-novel work. The agent inspects project structure, scripts, labels and assets, launches the game with the Live Editor on by default, grabs screenshots, reads the scene tree and clicks on-screen controls. A web dashboard gives a human the same reach.

The Live Editor is the headline feature of 0.7. Pick an editable control on screen, look at its properties, move it, and write back to `.rpy` only when the target is safe for source. Locked targets stay inspectable and the reason is shown next to them. There is also a story map that warps the running game to a label, plus an asset audit for orphans and missing images.

You need Python 3.11+ and `uv`. Ren'Py itself does not have to be installed: RenForge picks up an SDK already on the machine or fetches one the first time you launch. On Debian and Ubuntu plain `pip install` is blocked by PEP 668, so use `uvx` or `pipx`. The project is alpha and APIs may still change.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add renforge -- uvx renforge
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from renforge <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add renforge -- uvx renforge
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from renforge <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "renforge": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "renforge"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from renforge <command>

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "renforge": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "renforge"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from renforge <command>

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add renforge uvx renforge
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from renforge <command>
