# Rendex: Rendering API for Images, PDFs & Content Extraction

Rendex turns URLs, HTML, and Markdown into images or PDFs, and extracts readable webpage content. Use it when an agent needs a page capture or text to process.

## What it does

The MCP server can render a webpage, supplied HTML, or Markdown as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. It can capture a full page or a CSS-selected element, set PDF options, and fill a Mustache template with supplied data. Its extraction tool runs pages with JavaScript before returning readable content as Markdown, JSON, or HTML.

For a remote HTTP connection, use the hosted endpoint; local operation runs through `npx` and needs `RENDEX_API_KEY`. The local configuration contains that key, so keep `.mcp.json` out of version control with `.gitignore`. Some features depend on the plan: geo-targeted capture requires Pro or Enterprise, while completion webhooks for asynchronous jobs are available on Starter and above.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Remote server: `https://mcp.rendex.dev/mcp`
- Environment variables: `RENDEX_API_KEY` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.
