# remote-pc-mcp

Gives an agent tools to run commands, handle files and control a remote desktop. Use it when an MCP client needs to work with another computer.

## What it does

The server exposes tools for shell commands, file access, process management and system stats. An agent can also capture the desktop, click at screen coordinates or type into the focused window. Long-running commands can continue in the background, with output available by PID.

You need Python 3.10+ and either Windows 10/11 or Linux with systemd. Add the server to Claude Code with a token. Treat that token as a secret: `shell_exec` runs commands as the account that started the server, so a leaked credential grants command-line access under that account.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)
- Environment variables: `REMOTE_PC_MCP_TOKEN`, `REMOTE_PC_MCP_HOST`, `REMOTE_PC_MCP_PORT` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add --env REMOTE_PC_MCP_TOKEN=<REMOTE_PC_MCP_TOKEN> --env REMOTE_PC_MCP_HOST=<REMOTE_PC_MCP_HOST> --env REMOTE_PC_MCP_PORT=<REMOTE_PC_MCP_PORT> --transport stdio remote-pc-mcp -- uvx remote-pc-mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from remote-pc-mcp <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add remote-pc-mcp --env REMOTE_PC_MCP_TOKEN=<REMOTE_PC_MCP_TOKEN> --env REMOTE_PC_MCP_HOST=<REMOTE_PC_MCP_HOST> --env REMOTE_PC_MCP_PORT=<REMOTE_PC_MCP_PORT> -- uvx remote-pc-mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from remote-pc-mcp <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "remote-pc-mcp": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "remote-pc-mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "REMOTE_PC_MCP_TOKEN": "<REMOTE_PC_MCP_TOKEN>",
                "REMOTE_PC_MCP_HOST": "<REMOTE_PC_MCP_HOST>",
                "REMOTE_PC_MCP_PORT": "<REMOTE_PC_MCP_PORT>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from remote-pc-mcp <command>

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "remote-pc-mcp": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "remote-pc-mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "REMOTE_PC_MCP_TOKEN": "<REMOTE_PC_MCP_TOKEN>",
                "REMOTE_PC_MCP_HOST": "<REMOTE_PC_MCP_HOST>",
                "REMOTE_PC_MCP_PORT": "<REMOTE_PC_MCP_PORT>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from remote-pc-mcp <command>

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add -e REMOTE_PC_MCP_TOKEN=<REMOTE_PC_MCP_TOKEN> -e REMOTE_PC_MCP_HOST=<REMOTE_PC_MCP_HOST> -e REMOTE_PC_MCP_PORT=<REMOTE_PC_MCP_PORT> remote-pc-mcp uvx remote-pc-mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from remote-pc-mcp <command>

## When to use it
- run a shell command on a remote PC
- read or write a file on another machine
- check a background job by PID
- capture the desktop and interact with its UI

## Example prompts
- Run `pwd` on the connected PC and show me the output.
- Read `config.json` from the remote computer.
- Take a screenshot of the remote desktop.
