## What it does

REAPER MCP connects an AI assistant to REAPER, with tools for tracks, FX, automation, routing, and MIDI. Ask it to configure sidechain compression, build a mastering chain, or return a project overview with track levels, panning, effects, markers, and tempo.

A Lua bridge runs inside REAPER, while a JSFX analyzer supports measurement tools. Each change made by the assistant becomes its own entry in REAPER’s undo history. The server requires Python 3.10+, and the bridge must be running in REAPER; without it, the assistant cannot control the project.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add reaper-mcp -- uvx twelvetake-reaper-mcp
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from twelvetake-reaper-mcp <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add reaper-mcp -- uvx twelvetake-reaper-mcp
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from twelvetake-reaper-mcp <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "reaper-mcp": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "twelvetake-reaper-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from twelvetake-reaper-mcp <command>

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "reaper-mcp": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "twelvetake-reaper-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from twelvetake-reaper-mcp <command>

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add reaper-mcp uvx twelvetake-reaper-mcp
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from twelvetake-reaper-mcp <command>

## When to use it
- set up sidechain compression on a track
- build an FX chain on the master track
- route selected tracks through a new bus
- add MIDI notes and edit their velocity
- measure project loudness and true peak

## Example prompts
- Set up sidechain compression on the bass, triggered by the kick.
- Build a mastering chain on the master track.
- Summarize this project, including tracks, FX, tempo, and markers.
