## What it does

RE-call stores persistent agent context using either a single SQLite file or a PostgreSQL database with pgvector. Retrieval blends dense embeddings with text search through SQLite `FTS5` or PostgreSQL indexes. The core path operates without invoking an LLM at the retrieval stage.

Every retrieved chunk carries explicit origin and confidence ratings. Outdated facts receive a `superseded` tag to ensure recent records take precedence. When matches do not satisfy the calibrated trust gate, the server returns an `ABSTAIN` verdict with a reason. It refuses to guess.

The system targets Python 3.11+. PostgreSQL deployments fail immediately without a valid `RECALL_SERVING_DSN`.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)
- Environment variables: `RECALL_SERVING_DSN`, `RECALL_TENANT`, `RECALL_TRUST_MODE`, `RECALL_EMBEDDER`, `RECALL_TABLE`, `RECALL_MCP_TOOLS` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add --env RECALL_SERVING_DSN=<RECALL_SERVING_DSN> --env RECALL_TENANT=<RECALL_TENANT> --env RECALL_TRUST_MODE=<RECALL_TRUST_MODE> --env RECALL_EMBEDDER=<RECALL_EMBEDDER> --env RECALL_TABLE=<RECALL_TABLE> --transport stdio re-call-mcp-memory-server -- uvx recall-rag
```
Replace <…> with your own values. 1 more environment variable is in the server README. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from recall-rag <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add re-call-mcp-memory-server --env RECALL_SERVING_DSN=<RECALL_SERVING_DSN> --env RECALL_TENANT=<RECALL_TENANT> --env RECALL_TRUST_MODE=<RECALL_TRUST_MODE> --env RECALL_EMBEDDER=<RECALL_EMBEDDER> --env RECALL_TABLE=<RECALL_TABLE> -- uvx recall-rag
```
Replace <…> with your own values. 1 more environment variable is in the server README. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from recall-rag <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "re-call-mcp-memory-server": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "recall-rag"
            ],
            "env": {
                "RECALL_SERVING_DSN": "<RECALL_SERVING_DSN>",
                "RECALL_TENANT": "<RECALL_TENANT>",
                "RECALL_TRUST_MODE": "<RECALL_TRUST_MODE>",
                "RECALL_EMBEDDER": "<RECALL_EMBEDDER>",
                "RECALL_TABLE": "<RECALL_TABLE>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values. 1 more environment variable is in the server README. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from recall-rag <command>

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "re-call-mcp-memory-server": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "recall-rag"
            ],
            "env": {
                "RECALL_SERVING_DSN": "<RECALL_SERVING_DSN>",
                "RECALL_TENANT": "<RECALL_TENANT>",
                "RECALL_TRUST_MODE": "<RECALL_TRUST_MODE>",
                "RECALL_EMBEDDER": "<RECALL_EMBEDDER>",
                "RECALL_TABLE": "<RECALL_TABLE>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values. 1 more environment variable is in the server README. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from recall-rag <command>

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add -e RECALL_SERVING_DSN=<RECALL_SERVING_DSN> -e RECALL_TENANT=<RECALL_TENANT> -e RECALL_TRUST_MODE=<RECALL_TRUST_MODE> -e RECALL_EMBEDDER=<RECALL_EMBEDDER> -e RECALL_TABLE=<RECALL_TABLE> re-call-mcp-memory-server uvx recall-rag
```
Replace <…> with your own values. 1 more environment variable is in the server README. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from recall-rag <command>

## When to use it
- store persistent agent memory in SQLite or PostgreSQL with pgvector
- suppress unverified context when retrieval falls below calibrated trust levels
- flag outdated records as superseded when newer facts arrive
- perform hybrid keyword and vector lookups without memory-layer LLM calls

## Example prompts
- Query RE-call memory for our production database configuration and verify its provenance.
- Check stored memory to see if the API deployment guidelines were marked superseded.
