## What it does

posecode-mcp gives an agent tools for generating, checking, critiquing, and sharing movement descriptions. A `.posecode` file represents motion as text, with explicit joints, actions, angles, timed phases, and constraints. The result can be rendered in 3D and opened through a playground link.

The format keeps movement instructions readable and editable rather than hiding them in a trajectory. Parser warnings and fidelity checks help locate issues. Parsing and rendering do not require an AI model, though configured range-of-motion limits affect which angles are allowed.

To add the server to Claude Code, run `claude mcp add posecode-mcp -- npx -y posecode-mcp`. An alternative command sets `POSECODE_BASE_URL`; it requires a value for `<POSECODE_BASE_URL>`.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Environment variables: `POSECODE_BASE_URL` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add --env POSECODE_BASE_URL=<POSECODE_BASE_URL> --transport stdio posecode-mcp -- npx -y posecode-mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add posecode-mcp --env POSECODE_BASE_URL=<POSECODE_BASE_URL> -- npx -y posecode-mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "posecode-mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "posecode-mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "POSECODE_BASE_URL": "<POSECODE_BASE_URL>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "posecode-mcp": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "posecode-mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "POSECODE_BASE_URL": "<POSECODE_BASE_URL>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add -e POSECODE_BASE_URL=<POSECODE_BASE_URL> posecode-mcp npx -y posecode-mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values

## When to use it
- write a movement description in `.posecode`
- validate a movement and inspect parser warnings
- find fidelity issues in a movement
- edit a joint action or a motion phase
- prepare a movement for 3D rendering and sharing

## Example prompts
- Create a `.posecode` squat with separate lowering and rising phases.
- Check this `.posecode` file and explain any parser warnings.
- Change the knee flexion in the second phase and prepare the motion for rendering.
