## What it does

The server exposes PLAXIS 2D operations as MCP tools. An agent can create geometry and materials, set up phases, generate a mesh, run calculations and retrieve results. Input and Output use separate processes, each with a fixed role. There are also tools for checking model state and listing phases.

It runs locally on Windows and communicates over stdio. Run `plaxis-mcp.exe setup` first; it finds the PLAXIS installation, creates profiles for both roles and saves their passwords in Windows Credential Manager. Start PLAXIS before calling the `connect` tool. The server refuses to start when `PLAXIS_*` environment overrides are present, so those settings cannot redirect its endpoint or supply a password.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add plaxis -- uvx plaxis-mcp
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from plaxis-mcp <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add plaxis -- uvx plaxis-mcp
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from plaxis-mcp <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "plaxis": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "plaxis-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from plaxis-mcp <command>

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "plaxis": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "plaxis-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from plaxis-mcp <command>

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add plaxis uvx plaxis-mcp
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from plaxis-mcp <command>

## When to use it
- build geometry for a PLAXIS 2D model
- create materials and assign them to model objects
- configure construction phases and run a calculation
- retrieve results for a selected phase

## Example prompts
- Create a point, line and polygon in a new PLAXIS 2D project.
- Check the project phases and mesh state before running a calculation.
- Retrieve results for the selected phase and list the available result types.
