## What it does

Pitwall connects Claude to Formula 1 data through MCP tools. It can answer questions about race classification, lap times, tyre use, pit stops, weather, race control, and live session timing. Historical results and championship standings go back to 1950.

The full setup exposes 79 tools, including driver comparisons, telemetry analysis, speed charts, and gear-shift maps. A lighter setup has 30 tools and leaves out `pandas`, `numpy`, `matplotlib`, and `FastF1`, while keeping the live-timing tools.

The command-based setup requires `uv`. Core data needs no API key or account, but the server will not start without `uv`.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add pitwall -- uvx f1pitwall
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from f1pitwall <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add pitwall-f1-data-for-claude -- uvx f1pitwall
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from f1pitwall <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "pitwall-f1-data-for-claude": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "f1pitwall"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from f1pitwall <command>

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "pitwall-f1-data-for-claude": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "f1pitwall"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from f1pitwall <command>

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add pitwall-f1-data-for-claude uvx f1pitwall
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from f1pitwall <command>

## When to use it
- check a race winner and final classification
- compare two drivers’ lap telemetry
- break down tyre stints and pit stops
- locate safety-car periods in a race
- plot speed traces for selected laps

## Example prompts
- Who won the 2025 Australian Grand Prix?
- Compare Verstappen and Hamilton telemetry on the same lap.
- Show Ferrari’s tyre choices and pit-stop sequence.
