## What it does

peek exposes captured browser evidence to an AI coding agent: DOM history, console and network failures, plus the user action immediately before an error. The server reads session data from SQLite and can build a runnable Playwright reproduction from it.

It runs locally over stdio rather than serving an HTTP endpoint. A Chrome extension records the sessions, while `@peekdev/cli` connects the recorder to the MCP setup. Run `peek init` once and install the extension before there is anything for the server to inspect.

Node.js 22 or newer is required because `better-sqlite3` needs a matching native build. On Node.js 20, installation can fall back to compilation and fail, especially on Windows.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add peek-mcp -- npx -y @peekdev/mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add peek-mcp -- npx -y @peekdev/mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "peek-mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@peekdev/mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "peek-mcp": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@peekdev/mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add peek-mcp npx -y @peekdev/mcp
```

## When to use it
- find the session behind a browser error
- trace the user action before a failure
- inspect console and network failures
- generate a reproducible Playwright test

## Example prompts
- Find the latest recorded session with a console error and explain the failure.
- Show the network failures and the user action immediately before the error.
- Create a Playwright test that reproduces the failure from the latest session.
