# Orrery

Turns one YAML spec into animated architecture and process diagrams, exported as SVG, PNG, editable draw.io, a React component or an HTML viewer.

## What it does

You describe the system once in YAML and Orrery handles placement. The Eclipse Layout Kernel arranges nested boundaries, keeps edges at right angles and respects the node order you wrote unless that would cross lines. Icons come from the official vendor packs: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, GitHub Octicons and IBM Carbon, alongside tech logos and neutral symbols. Your own SVGs are allowed as `local:` icons, added and checked with `orrery icons new` and `icons check`.

The same spec can render as different figure types. The `kind:` field switches to a flowchart, a BPMN process with pools and lanes, a UML state machine, an org chart, a mind map or a customer journey map. Data models with keyed rows and crow's foot links, sequence diagrams and month- or quarter-based roadmaps are covered too. Writing the spec by hand is optional: `orrery import` builds one from Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK output, Docker Compose, Kubernetes manifests or Mermaid, and each node carries `evidence:` naming the file, line and identifier behind it. `orrery verify` fails once that evidence is gone.

Node.js 22 or newer is required. The CLI, layout engine, PNG renderer, fonts and cloud icon packs live inside the skill folder, but logo and glyph sets are fetched from their npm libraries the first time a diagram needs them, so that first render needs network access.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

```
### Codex
**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add orrery -- npx -y @sagargupta1610/orrery
```
### Cursor
**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "orrery": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@sagargupta1610/orrery"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
### GitHub Copilot
**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "orrery": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@sagargupta1610/orrery"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
### Gemini CLI
**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add orrery npx -y @sagargupta1610/orrery
```
## When to use it
- draw a GitOps delivery diagram with official AWS and Kubernetes icons
- get an editable draw.io file from the same spec as the README SVG
- build a step-by-step sequence diagram of a call flow
- check a diagram against the code and catch nodes Terraform no longer has
- lay out a quarterly roadmap with milestones and dependencies
## Example prompts
- Render `docs/hero.yaml` and give me both the SVG and the PNG
- Import the Kubernetes manifests into a spec and show me what changed
- Turn this spec into a BPMN process with lanes
