## What it does

The gateway exposes the Hono-based Den control plane (`den-api`). Route logic is split across discrete directories for authentication, workers, SCIM, and organization administration, allowing an agent to inspect one subsystem at a time without loading the entire API surface.

Telemetry relies on `DEN_OBSERVABILITY_BACKEND` to output structured JSON logs, export OTLP traces through OpenTelemetry, or route errors into Sentry. Sensitive values like authorization headers, cookies, and query parameters are redacted before telemetry records are dispatched.

A Redis instance is optional; when `DATABASE_REDIS_URL` is omitted, read-through caching falls back directly to database queries. Self-hosted web interfaces require explicit HTTPS entries under approved origins, because wildcards and unencrypted HTTP routes are rejected.

## Requirements
- Remote server: `https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent`

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
claude mcp add --transport http openwork https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
codex mcp add den-api --url https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "den-api": {
            "url": "https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent"
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "den-api": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent"
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http den-api https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent
```

## When to use it
- route agent queries to OpenWork organizational workflows and plugins
- monitor worker activity and heartbeats across Den deployments
- inspect organization settings and membership without direct DB access
- export OTLP traces or Sentry telemetry while redacting auth tokens

## Example prompts
- List worker nodes and check their activity heartbeats
- Inspect active organization members using the Den cache helpers
- Check the approved web origins registered for this organization
