# Octoparse MCP Server

Wires an AI client into Octoparse so it can find scraping templates, run cloud tasks and pull results out as CSV, JSON or Excel.

## What it does

Six tools ship with the server. `search_templates` looks templates up by keyword, template ID or slug. `execute_task` checks the parameters, builds a cloud task from an Octoparse preset and kicks off extraction. `export_data` returns whatever a task has collected, in JSON, CSV, Excel, HTML or XML. The rest are `search_tasks`, `start_or_stop_task` and `redeem_coupon_code`.

The usual path is `search_templates` → `execute_task` → `export_data`. Working with something already created, you go `search_tasks` → `export_data`. Recurring runs and notifications are not the server's job — your MCP client or another automation layer handles those.

Everything points at the hosted endpoint `https://mcp.octoparse.com`. Auth is OAuth by default, or an API key sent in the `x-api-key` header for clients that can set custom headers. Keep that key out of git, logs and screenshots. Local desktop tasks will not run through the hosted server, and cloud execution depends on your account permissions, remaining credits and whether the target site is reachable. A long job may come back empty on the first call, so `export_data` gets called again later.

## Requirements
- Remote server: `https://mcp.octoparse.com`

## Install

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http octoparse-mcp https://mcp.octoparse.com
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
codex mcp add octoparse-mcp-server --url https://mcp.octoparse.com
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "octoparse-mcp-server": {
            "url": "https://mcp.octoparse.com"
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "octoparse-mcp-server": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://mcp.octoparse.com"
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http octoparse-mcp-server https://mcp.octoparse.com
```

## When to use it
- find a scraping template by keyword
- spin up a cloud task from an Octoparse preset
- export collected rows to CSV or Excel
- check on a running task and stop it
- redeem a coupon or resource code

## Example prompts
- Find a cloud-capable Octoparse template for product listings and run it for wireless earbuds
- Export the last task result as CSV
- Search my Octoparse tasks and show which ones already have data
