## What it does

NovelAI Image MCP exposes NovelAI image operations as MCP tools. An agent can create pictures from text, transform an existing image, fill selected areas, and upscale output by 4×. The server also includes Director actions for line art, emotion, and background removal, plus ControlNet annotation, tag suggestions, and vibe encoding.

Results arrive as base64 image content and as PNG files saved on disk. Local agents can use stdio; remote or multi-client setups can use HTTP with optional bearer-token protection. Image generation requires `NOVELAI_TOKEN`, or `NOVELAI_USERNAME` together with `NOVELAI_PASSWORD`.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)
- Environment variables: `NOVELAI_TOKEN` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## When to use it
- create an image from a text prompt
- transform an existing image with img2img
- fill a selected image area with inpaint
- upscale an image by 4×
- apply Director or ControlNet processing

## Example prompts
- Create a rainy night city image with soft lighting and a cinematic composition.
- Edit the existing image while keeping its composition, but replace the background with a snowy forest.
- Upscale this image by 4× and return the resulting PNG file.
