# notifyd

Gives the agent operator tools for a self-hosted notifyd: digest, jobs, retries, suppressions, test sends. Useful when the instance has no admin UI.

## What it does

The server hooks your assistant to a running notifyd over HTTP at `https://{notifyd_host}/mcp`. Nothing else to install on the client side.

What the agent gets is the on-call operator's to-do list. A digest call returns findings, each with the action to take. From there it can list jobs by status, channel or project, open one job to see the provider and attempts, and re-queue a failed send once the cause is fixed. Suppressions, project settings and test sends are exposed the same way. notifyd itself owns the queue, priorities, retries and provider failover.

You need an instance up and reachable. PostgreSQL is its only dependency. The agent talks to the instance with its key, so think about which environment you hand it and whether that access should be scoped.

## Requirements
- Needs: Docker
- Remote server: `https://{notifyd_host}/mcp`
- Environment variables: `DATABASE_URL`, `JWT_SECRET`, `ADMIN_API_KEY`, `EMAIL_PROVIDER`, `EMAIL_FROM` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Template address**
- The server address is a template: replace {…} or […] with your own values

2. **Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
claude mcp add --transport http notifyd https://{notifyd_host}/mcp
```

### Codex

1. **Template address**
- The server address is a template: replace {…} or […] with your own values

2. **Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
codex mcp add notifyd --url https://{notifyd_host}/mcp
```

### Cursor

1. **Template address**
- The server address is a template: replace {…} or […] with your own values

2. **Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "notifyd": {
            "url": "https://{notifyd_host}/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

1. **Template address**
- The server address is a template: replace {…} or […] with your own values

2. **Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "notifyd": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://{notifyd_host}/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

1. **Template address**
- The server address is a template: replace {…} or […] with your own values

2. **Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http notifyd https://{notifyd_host}/mcp
```

## When to use it
- see what needs attention across the instance in one call
- list failed jobs filtered by channel or project
- re-queue a job after the underlying issue is fixed
- fire a test send to your own address
- work through suppressions and project settings

## Example prompts
- Show me the notifyd digest for the last day
- List failed email jobs and retry them
- Send a test email to you@example.com for the myapp project
