## What it does

nodebench provides 260 MCP tools across 49 domains. Its stated scope covers research, web scraping, quality gates, and the AI Flywheel. The default setup exposes 9 visible tools, including `investigate`, `compare`, `track`, `summarize`, `search`, `report`, and `ask_context`.

Claude Code connects to the server through `npx` with `claude mcp add nodebench -- npx -y nodebench-mcp`. Separate power and admin packages are available for broader or administrative surfaces. The install command depends on access to `npx` beforehand.

The project separates its setup into default, power, and admin lanes. Dashboards and the observability watchdog belong to the admin lane rather than the default startup path. That distinction matters when you want the basic workflow tools without those extra runtime components.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## When to use it
- investigate a topic and collect sources
- compare options against stated criteria
- track changes around a topic
- summarize gathered material
- produce a report from research results

## Example prompts
- Use `investigate` to research this topic and write a sourced report.
- Run `compare` on these two options, then explain the differences in the report.
- Use `track` to monitor new information about this subject and summarize the changes.
