## What it does

Built by multimail-dev, mcp-server connects an AI agent to email through tools for reading messages, composing replies, handling attachments, and scheduling delivery. Messages can be authored in Markdown, while replies retain their conversation threading. Outgoing mail includes a cryptographically signed identity header containing information about the operator and the mailbox's oversight mode.

Mailbox permissions range from read-only access to unrestricted sending and receiving. In `gated_send` mode, outgoing messages wait for human approval unless their recipients match an approved address or domain pattern. Incoming and outgoing messages pass through content scanning that flags phishing, malware, and prompt injection patterns.

Connect through the remote HTTP endpoint, which uses OAuth during the initial connection, or run the server locally with `npx -y @multimail/mcp-server`. Local configuration uses `MULTIMAIL_API_KEY` and `MULTIMAIL_MAILBOX_ID`. The default `gated_send` mode keeps newly addressed outgoing mail behind an approval step, which matters when configuring unattended email workflows.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Remote server: `https://mcp.multimail.dev/mcp`
- Environment variables: `MULTIMAIL_API_KEY`, `MULTIMAIL_MAILBOX_ID` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.
