# Molio Knowledge Base

## What it does

Molio Knowledge Base connects a local Molio knowledge base to Claude Code through MCP. The agent can search materials, read them, browse the collection, and answer questions about its contents. The connection is read-only, so the server does not write changes back to the knowledge base.

Molio can work with Markdown, TXT, HTML, CSV, PDF, Office files, images, web pages, and Obsidian vaults. PDF and Office processing uses docling, with converted results stored as Markdown. The server starts through `npx -y @molio/cli`.

The first PDF or Office conversion downloads docling and about 500MB of models. Read-only access is the main limitation: agent results are not deposited back into the base through this connection.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Environment variables: `MOLIO_PORT` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.
