## What it does

MoldSim plugs an injection molding reference into any MCP-capable assistant. Six tools come with it: knowledge base search, material properties, process parameter validation, simulation spec generation, material comparison and a DFM checklist. The material set covers 21 grades, from ABS and PP through PA66-GF30 and PBT-GF30, each with Cross-WLF viscosity, Tait PVT, thermal and mechanical data plus a processing window.

Validation compares your numbers against that window. The docs show ABS at 280 °C melt returning an error because it sits above the 260 °C ceiling and risks degradation, while PA66 at 40 °C mold temperature gets a warning about poor crystallization below the 70 °C floor. The DFM checklist runs more than 15 rule checks with pass, warn and fail ratings — wall thickness, ribs, draft, bosses, gating, shrinkage, venting.

Startup goes through `npx`, so nothing needs installing first. Under the hood it is Node.js and TypeScript, with search over a local embedded Qdrant database and HuggingFace transformers for embeddings. The knowledge stays software-agnostic: it applies to Moldflow, Moldex3D, CADMOULD, SIGMASOFT and SolidWorks Plastics alike.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add moldsim-mcp -- npx -y moldsim-mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add moldsim-mcp-server -- npx -y moldsim-mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "moldsim-mcp-server": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "moldsim-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "moldsim-mcp-server": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "moldsim-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add moldsim-mcp-server npx -y moldsim-mcp
```

## When to use it
- match process settings to a material's processing window
- trace the causes of warpage and sink marks
- compare 2–4 materials on stiffness, shrinkage and heat resistance
- turn a part description into a simulation spec
- run DFM checks on walls, ribs and draft

## Example prompts
- What causes warpage in glass-filled nylon parts?
- Validate: ABS at 245C melt, 60C mold, 2.5mm wall
