# mdma

An MCP server that hands your coding assistant the MDMA spec, ready-made authoring prompts, package info and repo docs.

## What it does

It speaks MCP over stdio. Ask for the full MDMA spec with `get-spec`, and the assistant gets component types, JSON schemas, binding syntax, authoring rules and how external data sources are declared. `list-packages` returns the npm packages with their install commands, while `list-docs` and `get-doc` reach into the public repository for documentation files.

Three prompts ship by name: `mdma-author`, `mdma-reviewer`, `mdma-fixer`. The author prompt has model-tuned versions, so run `list-prompt-variants` for the ids and pass one as `variantId`. Writing your own is the other path: `build-system-prompt` takes a domain, components, fields, steps and business rules, plus an optional catalog of data sources you then reference as `{ source, params }`. `validate-prompt` checks the result against MDMA conventions.

The server starts as `npx -y @mobile-reality/mdma-mcp`, so `npx` has to be on the machine. `get-doc` fetches from `raw.githubusercontent.com/MobileReality/mdma` and accepts an optional `ref` for a branch, tag or SHA. Block that host and the doc tools return nothing.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add mdma -- npx -y @mobile-reality/mdma-mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add mcp -- npx -y @mobile-reality/mdma-mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@mobile-reality/mdma-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "mcp": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@mobile-reality/mdma-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add mcp npx -y @mobile-reality/mdma-mcp
```

## When to use it
- pull the MDMA spec into the chat instead of switching to the browser
- generate a prompt tuned for a specific model via `variantId`
- assemble a system prompt from your own domain and component list
- lint a hand-written prompt against MDMA conventions
- fetch a doc from a branch, tag or commit SHA

## Example prompts
- Call `get-spec` and walk me through the component schemas
- Build a system prompt for a ticketing domain with `build-system-prompt`, then check it with `validate-prompt`
- Which author prompt variants exist? Start with `list-prompt-variants`, then fetch one by id
