## What it does

The server hands an AI agent MDK context: practice guidelines, details about the project it is sitting in, starting templates, and calls into the MDK CLI tools. The agent then writes metadata and files the MDK way instead of guessing.

Install it globally from npm and point any MCP client at `mdk-mcp`. It needs Node.js 24.11.1. On Intel Macs release 0.4.0 and later will not run, because `onnxruntime-node` from 1.24 stopped shipping darwin/x64 binaries; Rosetta 2 or an older release are the remaining options. Pick the MDK schema through `--schema-version` — 26.9 is the default, and 26.6, 26.3, 25.9, 25.6, 24.11 and 24.7 also work.

Set up an `AGENTS.md` rule file as well, with entries such as no `.service.metadata` generation and no `.xml` generation. Without those limits the agent slips extra files into the project. Cline may ask you to approve tool calls the first time.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

```
### Codex
**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add mdk-mcp-server -- npx -y @sap/mdk-mcp-server
```
### Cursor
**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "mdk-mcp-server": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",

        }
    }
}
```
### Gemini CLI
**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add mdk-mcp-server npx -y @sap/mdk-mcp-server
```
## When to use it
- write MDK app code with best-practice guidance in reach
- scaffold a new MDK project from a template
- call MDK CLI tools from inside the agent chat
- keep the agent from emitting unwanted files via `AGENTS.md`
- confirm the server loaded with the `/mcp` command
## Example prompts
- Check that the `mdk-mcp` server is connected and list its tools.
- Scaffold a new MDK project and show me which files it creates.
- Add a list screen to the app and explain which metadata it needs.
