## What it does

MCPfinder gives an AI client a searchable catalog of MCP servers from the Official MCP Registry, Glama, and Smithery. The assistant can inspect entries and install a selected server on demand, so discovery happens from the client rather than through manual catalog browsing.

At startup, the server fetches a compressed catalog snapshot in the background, verifies it with sha256, and switches to the new database without a restart. If snapshot retrieval fails, it falls back to a live registry sync, processing sources in sequence from the Official MCP Registry onward. The catalog is checked once a day.

It runs through `npx -y @mcpfinder/server`. If both snapshot artifacts fail, the server uses live sync instead of stopping.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

claude mcp add server -- npx -y @mcpfinder/server
```
### Codex
**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add mcp-server -- npx -y @mcpfinder/server
```
### Cursor
**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "mcp-server": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [

    }
}
```
### Gemini CLI
**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add mcp-server npx -y @mcpfinder/server
```
## When to use it
