## What it does

mcp-server-tauri gives an AI assistant tools for Tauri v2 development. It can take webview screenshots, find elements, click, type, scroll, wait for UI changes, inspect computed styles, and run JavaScript. The same server reads console, Android, iOS, and system logs, while its IPC tools capture traffic, execute commands, and inspect backend state.

A Tauri app needs the Rust bridge plugin before the server can connect. Add it with `cargo add tauri-plugin-mcp-bridge`, then initialize `tauri_plugin_mcp_bridge::init()` in `src-tauri/src/main.rs` under `#[cfg(debug_assertions)]`. The server talks to the Rust plugin over WebSocket. Without that bridge, the app connection will not work.

Multiple Tauri apps can stay connected on separate ports. The most recently connected app is the default; `appIdentifier` can target another app by port or bundle ID. A companion CLI keeps the MCP server warm so stateful `driver_session` calls work across shell invocations.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

gemini mcp add mcp-server npx -y @hypothesi/tauri-mcp-server
```
## When to use it
- inspect and operate a Tauri webview with an agent
- capture screenshots while testing the app UI
- trace and inspect Tauri IPC traffic
- read desktop and mobile application logs
- connect several Tauri apps on separate ports
## Example prompts
- Inspect the current webview, find the login button, and click it.
- Connect to the app on port `9223`, then show its recent IPC traffic.
- Take a screenshot after entering the test email in the webview.
