## What it does

This server connects coding assistants to the Neo4j Aura platform API. Tools allow the model to inspect tenant details, look up instances by name, spin up new graph databases with chosen RAM and region settings, or toggle vector index optimization.

Lifecycle actions include RAM resizing, pausing, resuming, and instance removal. Execution works through `uvx`, local Docker containers, or across three transport protocols: STDIO, SSE, and streaming HTTP. A `--namespace` argument prefixes every tool name to prevent naming collisions when handling multiple projects simultaneously.

Without valid `Client ID` and `Client Secret` values created in your Aura console, the server cannot connect to the API.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)
- Environment variables: `NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_ID`, `NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_SECRET`, `NEO4J_NAMESPACE` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add --env NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_ID=<NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_ID> --env NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_SECRET=<NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_SECRET> --env NEO4J_NAMESPACE=<NEO4J_NAMESPACE> --transport stdio mcp-neo4j-cloud-aura-api -- uvx mcp-neo4j-aura-manager
```
Replace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from mcp-neo4j-aura-manager <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add mcp-neo4j-cloud-aura-api --env NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_ID=<NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_ID> --env NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_SECRET=<NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_SECRET> --env NEO4J_NAMESPACE=<NEO4J_NAMESPACE> -- uvx mcp-neo4j-aura-manager
```
Replace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from mcp-neo4j-aura-manager <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "mcp-neo4j-cloud-aura-api": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "mcp-neo4j-aura-manager"
            ],
            "env": {
                "NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_ID": "<NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_ID>",
                "NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_SECRET": "<NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_SECRET>",
                "NEO4J_NAMESPACE": "<NEO4J_NAMESPACE>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from mcp-neo4j-aura-manager <command>

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "mcp-neo4j-cloud-aura-api": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "mcp-neo4j-aura-manager"
            ],
            "env": {
                "NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_ID": "<NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_ID>",
                "NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_SECRET": "<NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_SECRET>",
                "NEO4J_NAMESPACE": "<NEO4J_NAMESPACE>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from mcp-neo4j-aura-manager <command>

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add -e NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_ID=<NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_ID> -e NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_SECRET=<NEO4J_AURA_CLIENT_SECRET> -e NEO4J_NAMESPACE=<NEO4J_NAMESPACE> mcp-neo4j-cloud-aura-api uvx mcp-neo4j-aura-manager
```
Replace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from mcp-neo4j-aura-manager <command>

## When to use it
- provision new Neo4j Aura instances with specified memory and region
- adjust RAM allocation on existing database instances
- pause or resume instances to control cloud spending
- toggle vector search optimization on an instance
- retrieve instance statuses and configurations by identifier

## Example prompts
- List all available Neo4j Aura instances across my tenants
- Create an enterprise Neo4j instance named staging-db with 4 GB RAM in us-east-1
- Pause the database instance with ID `aura-instance-123`
