## What it does

This server connects your coding assistant to the Mapbox Styles API and local geospatial processing utilities. It includes tools for listing, inspecting, and generating map styles, alongside a conversational Style Builder tool. MCP resources like `resource://mapbox-style-layers` and `resource://mapbox-streets-v8-fields` provide reference schemas directly to the context window.

Local processing tools handle coordinate conversions, bounding box calculations, style comparison, and GeoJSON previews. You can run the server locally via `npx` or hook into the hosted HTTP endpoint.

A valid `MAPBOX_ACCESS_TOKEN` is mandatory. Every tool depends on specific token permissions. Style updates fail without `styles:write`, while token generation requires `tokens:write`.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Remote server: `https://mcp-devkit.mapbox.com/mcp`
- Environment variables: `MAPBOX_ACCESS_TOKEN` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.
