## What it does

Macfax connects your assistant to secondary Apple market data. The service handles serial lookups across Mac, iPad, and iPhone lineups, covering modern randomized codes introduced in 2021. Queries return hardware specifications, launch year, MDM presence, and Activation Lock checks alongside estimated resale valuations.

The server inspects listings from platforms like Swappa, eBay, Craigslist, and Reddit. Scam patterns, expired posts, and auctions are stripped out prior to ingestion. Pricing figures distinguish actual concluded sales from asking ranges while factoring in platform fee deductions.

Basic functionality runs over remote HTTP at `https://macfax.com/mcp` without credentials. Adding an optional `MACFAX_API_KEY` expands rate limits roughly tenfold, and checking your credit balance fails without that environment variable.
