# M1K3

A local MCP server served by a Mac app: knowledge search, documents, voice and a query tool for the resident AI. Useful when an agent needs your data without the cloud.

## What it does

M1K3 is a SwiftUI app for macOS that exposes an MCP server over HTTP at `http://127.0.0.1:4242/mcp`. Agents calling it get knowledge search backed by RAG, document access, voice features and `ask_m1k3`, which asks the AI living inside the app. Wiring it into Claude or another MCP client is covered in `docs/MCP_SETUP.md`.

You build it from source. That takes macOS 26 (Tahoe) on Apple Silicon, Xcode 26.x with the Swift 6.2 toolchain, and XcodeGen. Clone the repo, go to `m1k3/macos`, run `xcodegen generate`, then open `M1K3.xcodeproj`. The `project.yml` file is the source of truth; the `.xcodeproj` itself is generated and not tracked.

Compiling with `CODE_SIGNING_ALLOWED=NO` works, but the app then runs outside its sandbox container and reads and writes the wrong data locations. Sign with your own development team instead. Models download once from Hugging Face; after that only web search touches the network, and it is on by default with a single switch in Settings to turn it off.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Install**
- The MCP registry has no launch command for it: see the repository README

## When to use it
- hand an agent access to a personal knowledge base over HTTP
- search documents through RAG from an MCP client
- ask the resident AI a question with `ask_m1k3`
- wire speech input and synthesis into an agent
- build a Mac app from source with XcodeGen

## Example prompts
- Connect the M1K3 MCP server at `http://127.0.0.1:4242/mcp` and search my documents for release notes
- Ask `ask_m1k3` what my knowledge base says about the project architecture
- List the tools the M1K3 MCP server exposes
