# Lawstronaut

## What it does

Lawstronaut runs an MCP server at `https://mcp.lawstronaut.com`, giving agents access to legal documents from 150+ jurisdictions. It speaks MCP over Streamable HTTP, so calls go out as `POST /`. The tool listing is public — read it at `https://mcp.lawstronaut.com/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json` without authenticating.

Two auth paths exist: a bearer token, or OAuth 2.0 with `client_id` and `client_secret`. Both come from the developer portal once a subscription is bought. Tool calls fail without an active subscription, and the bearer token belongs in the `LAWSTRONAUT_MCP_BEARER_TOKEN` environment variable.

The tools are lookup-oriented. `list_jurisdictions` returns countries and states, while `list_domains`, `list_subdomains` and `list_categories` break the corpus down by domain, subdomain and category, with name filters and pagination. Call `list_jurisdictions` first: the other tools expect ISO codes from it. Clients that handle MCP OAuth discovery need only the server URL; everyone else passes the bearer token in a header.
