## What it does

InvoiceXML is an MCP server that puts the InvoiceXML REST API in front of an AI agent. The agent can then build invoices, check them against the spec, move them between formats and pull structured data back out of finished files. Factur-X, ZUGFeRD, XRechnung, UBL / CII and Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 are all covered.

One codebase, two deployment shapes, picked at startup by `Mcp:AuthMode`. With `ApiKey` you host it yourself and supply the key through `INVOICEXML_API_KEY` or `appsettings.json`. With `OAuth` it runs on InvoiceXML infrastructure and authenticates clients via OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration. Running it locally takes the .NET 10 SDK and an InvoiceXML API key — no key, no server.

The host exposes the MCP endpoint at `POST http://localhost:5004/`, a welcome page at `GET /` and `/health`. It keeps no state, so you can put several instances behind a load balancer; terminate TLS at your own proxy. A new tool is one class marked `[McpServerTool]`, a new auth mode is one branch in `AuthExtensions.cs`.

        }
    }
}
```
### Gemini CLI
**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http invoicexml https://mcp.invoicexml.com
```
## When to use it
- generate an XRechnung invoice from order data
- validate a Factur-X file against the spec
- convert an invoice from UBL to ZUGFeRD
- extract line items and totals from a received e-invoice
- prepare a document for Peppol BIS Billing 3.0
## Example prompts
- Build an XRechnung invoice from this order data and validate it
- Parse `invoice.xml` and list the line items with totals
- Convert this UBL invoice to ZUGFeRD
