## What it does

The server introduces the `convert_image_to_svg` tool to turn raster graphics into SVG vector paths. It accepts standard web formats including PNG, JPG, WEBP, and TIFF. You can pass inputs as base64 strings or remote URLs, and data URI headers are handled automatically.

Vectorization settings include curve smoothing modes like splines or polygons. The `colormode` option switches between color layers and monochrome line art. Small image noise disappears when raising `filter_speckle`, and `color_precision` sets color palette depth.

Network downloads are constrained by a 5 MB file size limit. Reading local paths using `file://` fails immediately unless you specify `--allow-local-files-path`. Paths are normalized to stop directory traversal attacks.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add image2svg-mcp -- uvx image2svg-mcp
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from image2svg-mcp <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add image-to-svg -- uvx image2svg-mcp
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from image2svg-mcp <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "image-to-svg": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "image2svg-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from image2svg-mcp <command>

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "image-to-svg": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "image2svg-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from image2svg-mcp <command>

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add image-to-svg uvx image2svg-mcp
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from image2svg-mcp <command>

## When to use it
- trace raster images into SVG vector paths
- filter out speckle noise from logos and scans
- quantize color palettes for simplified artwork
- enable local file access through an allowed directory

## Example prompts
- Convert this image into a simplified vector SVG: https://example.com/photo.png
- Trace this sketch using binary colormode with filter_speckle set to 10 for clean edges.
- Convert this base64 image data into SVG using spline curves.
