Enables local inspection of IFC and BIM models, generates spatial reports, builds basic geometries, and opens a 3D model viewer directly from chat.

## What it does

The server parses building models directly on your computer without external network dependencies. It runs an isolated Pyodide environment with IfcOpenShell to execute BIM logic locally. Your assistant can audit attribute tables, tally structural elements, or author basic IFC files from prompts.

Generated summaries arrive as direct download paths, while model previews open through a local browser viewer. It supports applying BCF camera viewpoints. Processing dense models takes over a minute.

Aborting an ongoing request in your client does not stop the background Python execution. You must wait for the process to conclude before issuing another task. Node.js 20 or newer is mandatory.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add ifc-mcp -- npx -y ifc-mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add ifc-mcp -- npx -y ifc-mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "ifc-mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "ifc-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "ifc-mcp": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "ifc-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add ifc-mcp npx -y ifc-mcp
```

## When to use it
- count structural components and spaces inside an IFC file
- audit BIM models for missing classification values and tags
- export room area tables to a local CSV spreadsheet
- preview building geometries and load BCF viewpoints in a browser
- author minimal IFC models containing storeys and basic walls

## Example prompts
- Inspect examples/sample.ifc and count all doors, windows, and spaces.
- Identify missing classification tags and invalid properties in this model.
- Export a room area schedule from this IFC file to CSV.
