## What it does

This remote MCP server lets a client search Idescat’s statistics catalogue, inspect a statistic and its tables, and retrieve table metadata or data. Queries can filter by territory, dimension, and period; results can also be rendered as Markdown tables.

For calculations, tools support category sums and derived shares, differences, or percentage changes. Age-based filters are available too. Data comes as JSON-stat, while labels and descriptions are in Catalan, so factor that in when an answer needs to be readable without translation. The endpoint is public and requires no API key; the server is stateless. In Claude Code, add it with `claude mcp add --transport http mcp https://api.idescat.cat/mcp`.

## Requirements
- Remote server: `https://api.idescat.cat/mcp`

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
claude mcp add --transport http mcp https://api.idescat.cat/mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
codex mcp add idescat-mcp-server --url https://api.idescat.cat/mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "idescat-mcp-server": {
            "url": "https://api.idescat.cat/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "idescat-mcp-server": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://api.idescat.cat/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http idescat-mcp-server https://api.idescat.cat/mcp
```

## When to use it
- find available Idescat statistics
- inspect table dimensions and categories
- filter results by territory and period
- render selected statistics as a Markdown table
- calculate a share or change from table values

## Example prompts
- Find Idescat population statistics and list the available tables.
- Get data for table `538` of statistic `censph` for Catalonia and recent periods.
- Compare territorial values and calculate their percentage change.
