Wires your AI assistant into IBM Maximo: it finds object structures, shows field schemas, runs OSLC queries and writes records back.

## What it does

This Model Context Protocol server hands your assistant a direct line to a Maximo instance. You stop pasting API docs into the chat. Ask about an object structure such as MXWO or MXASSET and you get the exact field names, types and descriptions. Then run an OSLC REST query and look at real rows before any code gets written.

Writes work too. The server creates work orders, assets and service requests, patches an existing record by ID, and fires Maximo business workflows like status changes or approvals. For front ends it helps build tables and dashboards on Carbon Design System.

You need Node.js v18 or higher and a Maximo API key with read access. Grab the OpenAPI schema first: without `maximo_openapi.json` the offline schema lookup is gone and responses slow down. Credentials live in `.env` as `MAXIMO_URL`, `MAXIMO_HOST` and `MAXIMO_API_KEY` — keep that file out of version control.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Environment variables: `MAXIMO_URL`, `MAXIMO_API_KEY`, `MAXIMO_HOST` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add --env MAXIMO_URL=<MAXIMO_URL> --env MAXIMO_API_KEY=<MAXIMO_API_KEY> --env MAXIMO_HOST=<MAXIMO_HOST> --transport stdio ibm-maximo -- npx -y maximo-mcp-server
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add ibm-maximo --env MAXIMO_URL=<MAXIMO_URL> --env MAXIMO_API_KEY=<MAXIMO_API_KEY> --env MAXIMO_HOST=<MAXIMO_HOST> -- npx -y maximo-mcp-server
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "ibm-maximo": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "maximo-mcp-server"
            ],
            "env": {
                "MAXIMO_URL": "<MAXIMO_URL>",
                "MAXIMO_API_KEY": "<MAXIMO_API_KEY>",
                "MAXIMO_HOST": "<MAXIMO_HOST>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "ibm-maximo": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "maximo-mcp-server"
            ],
            "env": {
                "MAXIMO_URL": "<MAXIMO_URL>",
                "MAXIMO_API_KEY": "<MAXIMO_API_KEY>",
                "MAXIMO_HOST": "<MAXIMO_HOST>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add -e MAXIMO_URL=<MAXIMO_URL> -e MAXIMO_API_KEY=<MAXIMO_API_KEY> -e MAXIMO_HOST=<MAXIMO_HOST> ibm-maximo npx -y maximo-mcp-server
```
Replace <…> with your own values

## When to use it
- locate a Maximo object structure and its fields
- test an OSLC query against live data before writing code
- create a work order or asset from the chat
- patch a Maximo record by ID without opening the UI
- build a Carbon Design System table or dashboard

## Example prompts
- List the fields of the MXWO object structure with their types
- Run an OSLC query against MXASSET and show me the first rows
- Create a work order for a pump repair in Maximo
