# HasData Instagram

## What it does

The server queries public Instagram endpoints and returns structured JSON to the client. It handles profile lookups, feed walking, and comment extraction on individual posts or reels. Captions arrive with hashtags and mentioned handles pre-parsed into distinct arrays, saving your agent from parsing text with regex.

Setup requires no social media account credentials. The server runs as a hosted endpoint over streamable HTTP at `https://mcp.hasdata.com/mcp?apis=instagram` or locally via the `@hasdata/instagram-mcp` launcher package. A single profile request bundles the twelve latest posts right away, saving round trips during account reviews.

Usage requires a `HASDATA_API_KEY`. The free tier includes 1,000 monthly credits, which equals 100 API queries. Without a valid HasData API key, calls fail immediately.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Remote server: `https://mcp.hasdata.com/mcp?apis=instagram`
- Environment variables: `HASDATA_API_KEY` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## When to use it
- fetch public profile metadata and bio links
- extract recent posts with pre-parsed hashtags and mentions
- retrieve comments and engagement counts from a specific post URL
- compare follower counts across multiple public accounts
