## What it does

This remote server runs over HTTP at `https://gribstream.com/mcp`. No local installation is needed. It gives coding assistants access to weather prediction datasets including GFS, HRRR, NBM, and ECMWF IFS. Public unauthenticated tools inspect model variables, resolve aliases, check expression syntax, and generate ready-to-run `curl` commands.

Fetching actual forecast values via `/timeseries` and `/runs` requires OAuth authorization linked to a GribStream API token. The endpoint uses a public PKCE flow where the client secret stays empty. MCP client forms that require a client secret cannot complete this handshake.

## Requirements
- Remote server: `https://gribstream.com/mcp`

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
claude mcp add --transport http mcp https://gribstream.com/mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
codex mcp add gribstream-weather-mcp --url https://gribstream.com/mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "gribstream-weather-mcp": {
            "url": "https://gribstream.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "gribstream-weather-mcp": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://gribstream.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http gribstream-weather-mcp https://gribstream.com/mcp
```

## When to use it
- locate exact variable selectors across NOAA and ECMWF datasets
- validate weather API request syntax and expression rules before sending
- retrieve numerical forecast values using `/timeseries`
- compare meteorological predictions across different model runs

## Example prompts
- Find surface temperature selectors in the GFS forecast dataset
- Generate a valid curl command to fetch wind speed from ECMWF IFS
- Query precipitation accumulation from the latest HRRR cycle
