## What it does

The `@glbforge/mcp` server equips coding agents with 28 specialized 3D tools. Its `inspect` routine parses mesh topology, reports holes, and verifies scale within tens of milliseconds. The `diff` tool lets an agent catch geometry regressions between edits, tracking polygon changes and comparing camera angles with SSIM visual checks.

Vector graphics bypass generative models entirely. The server traces silhouettes into clean 3D meshes of roughly 1.5k triangles. Photographed objects can be separated from backgrounds with the automatic matte filter or routed to an external generator.

Running generative tasks requires setting the `MESHY_API_KEY` variable. Without this token, requests relying on the Meshy API fail, though local analysis and mesh reduction continue to operate.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Environment variables: `MESHY_API_KEY` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add glbforge -e MESHY_API_KEY=<MESHY_API_KEY> -- npx -y @glbforge/mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add glbforge --env MESHY_API_KEY=<MESHY_API_KEY> -- npx -y @glbforge/mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "glbforge": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@glbforge/mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "MESHY_API_KEY": "<MESHY_API_KEY>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "glbforge": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@glbforge/mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "MESHY_API_KEY": "<MESHY_API_KEY>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add -e MESHY_API_KEY=<MESHY_API_KEY> glbforge npx -y @glbforge/mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values

## When to use it
- check 3D meshes for unclosed boundaries and holes
- compare mesh revisions with SSIM and triangle counts
- extrude vector silhouettes into clean 3D assets
- reduce polycount to meet web performance budgets

## Example prompts
- Inspect `robot.glb` with glbforge and list any topology defects
- Run a diff between `model_v1.glb` and `model_v2.glb` to check for regressions
- Extrude `badge.png` into a watertight GLB model
