# GEO Tracker by DigestSEO

Tracks brand citations across AI search platforms directly from your coding agent. Operates locally via stdio and caches scan logs on your machine.

## What it does

The server runs as a local process via `npx -y @digestseo/mcp-geo` using stdio communication. It queries configured generative platforms to inspect how conversational search tools reference your business. Scan logs and response cache stay on your machine rather than streaming to a remote analytical cloud.

Configuration accepts credentials for OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Perplexity, xAI, and SerpApi. When an engine lacks a valid credential, the tool skips that platform gracefully instead of terminating the run.

Executing live scans requires Node.js 22.13 or newer. Without at least one active engine secret, the server can only advertise its tool schema to your agent.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Environment variables: `OPENAI_API_KEY`, `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY`, `GEMINI_API_KEY`, `PERPLEXITY_API_KEY`, `XAI_API_KEY`, `SERPAPI_API_KEY`, `SERPAPI_AI_MODE_ENABLED` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add mcp-geo -e OPENAI_API_KEY=<OPENAI_API_KEY> -e ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=<ANTHROPIC_API_KEY> -e GEMINI_API_KEY=<GEMINI_API_KEY> -e PERPLEXITY_API_KEY=<PERPLEXITY_API_KEY> -e XAI_API_KEY=<XAI_API_KEY> -e SERPAPI_API_KEY=<SERPAPI_API_KEY> -- npx -y @digestseo/mcp-geo
```
Replace <…> with your own values. 2 more environment variables are in the server README

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add geo-tracker-by-digestseo --env OPENAI_API_KEY=<OPENAI_API_KEY> --env ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=<ANTHROPIC_API_KEY> --env GEMINI_API_KEY=<GEMINI_API_KEY> --env PERPLEXITY_API_KEY=<PERPLEXITY_API_KEY> --env XAI_API_KEY=<XAI_API_KEY> -- npx -y @digestseo/mcp-geo
```
Replace <…> with your own values. 2 more environment variables are in the server README

## When to use it
- Audit brand mentions across AI search surfaces
- Store scan history and response cache locally
- Run citation checks across multiple model providers simultaneously
- Inspect generative search outputs without sharing data with third-party dashboards

## Example prompts
- Scan AI search platforms to see how my brand is cited.
- Check brand visibility in Perplexity and Gemini responses.
- Run a citation audit for our domain using configured API credentials.
