## What it does

geo-score checks whether AI answer engines can reach a site, parse its content and treat it as a source worth citing. It returns a score from 0 to 100 using a published rubric. The site check needs no API key or installation. It can flag issues such as crawler-blocking rules in `robots.txt` or content that appears only after JavaScript runs.

Add a key from OpenAI, Perplexity, Gemini, Anthropic or OpenRouter to test citations for a question. For recurring checks, provide a fixed question list and the same kind of API access. Citation results appear alongside the score; they do not change it. Without an API key, citation checks and recurring monitoring are out of reach.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)
- Environment variables: `OPENAI_API_KEY`, `PERPLEXITY_API_KEY`, `GEMINI_API_KEY`, `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY`, `OPENROUTER_API_KEY`, `GEO_SCORE_WATCH_CONFIG` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add geo-score -e OPENAI_API_KEY=<OPENAI_API_KEY> -e PERPLEXITY_API_KEY=<PERPLEXITY_API_KEY> -e GEMINI_API_KEY=<GEMINI_API_KEY> -e ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=<ANTHROPIC_API_KEY> -e OPENROUTER_API_KEY=<OPENROUTER_API_KEY> -- uvx geo-score
```
Replace <…> with your own values. 1 more environment variable is in the server README. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from geo-score <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add geo-score --env OPENAI_API_KEY=<OPENAI_API_KEY> --env PERPLEXITY_API_KEY=<PERPLEXITY_API_KEY> --env GEMINI_API_KEY=<GEMINI_API_KEY> --env ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=<ANTHROPIC_API_KEY> --env OPENROUTER_API_KEY=<OPENROUTER_API_KEY> -- uvx geo-score
```
Replace <…> with your own values. 1 more environment variable is in the server README. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from geo-score <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "geo-score": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "geo-score"
            ],
            "env": {
                "OPENAI_API_KEY": "<OPENAI_API_KEY>",
                "PERPLEXITY_API_KEY": "<PERPLEXITY_API_KEY>",
                "GEMINI_API_KEY": "<GEMINI_API_KEY>",
                "ANTHROPIC_API_KEY": "<ANTHROPIC_API_KEY>",
                "OPENROUTER_API_KEY": "<OPENROUTER_API_KEY>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values. 1 more environment variable is in the server README. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from geo-score <command>

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "geo-score": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "geo-score"
            ],
            "env": {
                "OPENAI_API_KEY": "<OPENAI_API_KEY>",
                "PERPLEXITY_API_KEY": "<PERPLEXITY_API_KEY>",
                "GEMINI_API_KEY": "<GEMINI_API_KEY>",
                "ANTHROPIC_API_KEY": "<ANTHROPIC_API_KEY>",
                "OPENROUTER_API_KEY": "<OPENROUTER_API_KEY>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values. 1 more environment variable is in the server README. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from geo-score <command>

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add -e OPENAI_API_KEY=<OPENAI_API_KEY> -e PERPLEXITY_API_KEY=<PERPLEXITY_API_KEY> -e GEMINI_API_KEY=<GEMINI_API_KEY> -e ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=<ANTHROPIC_API_KEY> -e OPENROUTER_API_KEY=<OPENROUTER_API_KEY> geo-score uvx geo-score
```
Replace <…> with your own values. 1 more environment variable is in the server README. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from geo-score <command>

## When to use it
- score a site's readiness for AI citations
- spot crawler access issues on a site
- check which sources answer engines cite for a question
- track citations across a fixed set of questions

## Example prompts
- Score how ready `stripe.com` is for AI answer engines.
- Check whether answers about a marketplace payments API cite `stripe.com`.
- Track citations for this fixed set of questions.
