## What it does

Frisian MCP inspects Django route patterns and registers discovered ViewSets as tools on the fly. Parameter structures, descriptions, and validations come straight from DRF serializers. Standard backend filters like `SearchFilter` and `OrderingFilter` automatically translate into tool input arguments.

The server addresses prompt window exhaustion through dispatchers. While regular flat registrations dump hundreds of separate schemas into context, `FRISIAN_MCP_DISPATCH_GROUPS` consolidates actions under single dispatcher tools. Bulk operations return a fixed 24-token response envelope rather than echoing back entire payload objects.

Running this gateway requires Python 3.11+, Django 5.x, and Django REST Framework 3.14 or newer. Host application throttles, queryset filtering, and authentication rules stay enforced on every call.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)
- Remote server: `https://mcp.frisian-mcp.com/mcp/`

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
claude mcp add --transport http django https://mcp.frisian-mcp.com/mcp/
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
codex mcp add frisian-mcp-django --url https://mcp.frisian-mcp.com/mcp/
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "frisian-mcp-django": {
            "url": "https://mcp.frisian-mcp.com/mcp/"
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "frisian-mcp-django": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://mcp.frisian-mcp.com/mcp/"
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http frisian-mcp-django https://mcp.frisian-mcp.com/mcp/
```

## When to use it
- expose Django REST Framework endpoints to coding agents
- reduce context token consumption using tool dispatchers
- prevent context window bloat during bulk write operations
- enforce Django permissions and rate limits on agent calls

## Example prompts
- Inspect the available tools using the dispatcher action="help"
- Verify the gateway configuration by running python manage.py mcp_doctor
- Fetch the list of records through the users.list tool
